Saturday, August 30-Saturday September 6
Saturday, August 30
Our begin our journey with a flight from Salt Lake City into Omaha,
NE. After a welcome lunch we visit the Kainsville Tabernacle and
the Mormon Trail Center. We conclude this evening by attending
a session in the Winter Quarters Temple.
Sunday, August 31
This morning we attend a local sacrament meeting before journeying
to Independence where we visit the newly remodeled Independence
LDS Visitor's Center. We then travel on to Liberty to visit the
Jail and Visitor's Center where Joseph, Hyrum and four others
were imprisoned after the downfall of Far West. While there he
received three revelations that are recorded in the Doctrine and
Covenants. After dinner we travel to Richmond, Missouri where
we visit the Richmond Pioneer Cemetery where Oliver Cowdery and
several members of the Whitmer family are buried. Here we stay
for the evening.
Monday, September 1
This morning we then travel to Far West to see the dedicated
Temple Site, before visiting Adam-Ondi-Ahman where we will be
able to overlook the beautiful valley full of historical and future
significance. This afternoon we head to St. Louis where we enjoy
time on the Mississippi River, and visiting the famous St. Louis
Arch.
Tuesday, September 2
This morning we attend the St. Louis temple. This afternoon
we head to Hannibal, MO, the beloved city of Mark Twain. Here
we will stop for lunch and stroll through the old Main St. and
see the shops and homes as Mark Twain did. Later we travel the
old road on to Carthage to visit the LDS visitors' center and
the jail itself where the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother
Hyrum were martyred. This evening we arrive in beautiful NAUVOO!
Wednesday, September 3
We will start our day with temple session at the Nauvoo Temple.
We then begin our Nauvoo experience with a wagon ride through
"Old Nauvoo". We then visit the Nauvoo Visitor's Center where
you may enjoy the beautiful and inspiring Monument to Women garden,
honoring women of the past, present and future. This is one of
Chrissy's favorite places to visit. After lunch we will then walk
the Trail of Hope down Parleys street and see the markers that
tell the tails of the pioneers as they had to pack up and leave
Nauvoo. Here Courtney will play her violin for us as we reflect
on the Saints departure from Nauvoo. You will then have time to
visit the many houses and stores in "Old Nauvoo". You won't want
to miss the homes of Brigham Young, John Taylor, Heber C. Kimball,
Lucy Mack Smith, and the Jonathan Browning Gun Shop. After dinner
we will go back down to the Cultural Hall to see the production
of "Rendezvous in Old Nauvoo" before returning to the hotel for
the evening.
Thursday, September 4
This morning we visit the Mansion House, and the Red Brick
Store. We also visit Joseph Smith's homestead, the gravesites
of Joseph, Emma, Hyrum and the other family members that are buried
there. We then take an extended tour of the Nauvoo area, including
a visit to the old Pioneer cemetery. After lunch you will have
additional time to visit the various shops in "Old Nauvoo".
We conclude the day with dinner at the Hotel Nauvoo.
Friday, September 5
Before we bid farewell to Nauvoo we will have additional
time to visit the many houses and stores in "Old Nauvoo". After
lunch we make our way across Iowa towards Winter Quarters. We
stop at Mt. Pisgah along the way where we tour the area that the
early saints established settlements. This evening we have a farewell
dinner in Council Bluffs as we prepare to return home.
Saturday, September 6
This morning we travel back to Salt Lake City.
$1,175 each, double occupancy.
