Modest clothing is something that all mothers and fathers want
their children to be wearing, especially Latter-Day Saint mothers
and fathers.
The scriptures declare that the body is a temple. It is gift
to be treated with gratitude and respect. We would keep the outside
of our bodily temples looking clean and beautiful to reflect the
sacred and holy nature of what is inside, just as the Church does
with it's Temples We should dress and act in ways that reflect
the sacred spirit inside us.
(Exerpts from a talk given by Susan W. Tanner)
When my second daughter was a Beehive, our Young Women's group
had a modesty fashion show. Mothers were invited to attend. After
the fashion show they had a brief speaker. She spoke about head
shoulders knees and toes. Lift your arms high above your head.
Nothing should show. Put your hands on your shoulders. You should
be touching clothing. Kneel down on the floor, and all skirts
should be touching the floor. Touch your toes and there should
be no parts of you showing in back.
The next day when my daughter was getting ready for school, my
daughter came to me in tears. She said that she didn't feel good
about herself, because she had to keep pulling her shirt down
because all of her jeans were to low. We skipped the first part
of school and bought a half dozen tank tops that she could wear
under her clothes.
Modesty is so important to young girls. Since then, I've tried
to be sensative to the needs of my girls to wear modest clothing.
These modest shirts and modest cap sleeve tee-shirts help so much.
The modest cap sleeve tee- shirts cover everything and serve as
a base for everything else the girls wear. (They like to layer
their shirts.) If they want to wear them without layering, I have
them wear the modest cap sleeve tee-shirts that are a few sizes
to big just so they have a little looser fit. The modest henleys,
modest long sleeve shirts and modest v-necks have a looser fit
but cover them just as much.
Because they are fashionable I know my daughters like wearing
them. Because they are modest my husband and I aprove of them.
Also, they look more beautiful when they are modestly dressed.
Whether you buy these shirts or not, do all you can to let your
daughters know how beautiful they are, and help them be modest.
